San Diego, Calif., is typically known for sand, surf and sun, but did you also know that it hosts three very dog-friendly bars with some very “paw”sh amenities?
So pull up a bar stool, order a pint for yourself and a fresh water bowl for your pooch and check out these three dog-friendly pubs in the San Diego area!
1. La Jolla Brew House – 7536 Fay Ave., La Jolla (map), 858-456-6279
Stop on by for Doggy Yappy Hour at this popular dog-friendly bar and relax with your pooch on the patio. Be sure your dog samples some of the delicious entrees from their special Canine Menu, such as the Hound Dog Heaven, which is a juicy ground beef patty, plain and simple. The bar also offers selections from Honest Kitchen, a local brand that creates human-grade dehydrated food for pets. 2. The Wine Pub – 2907 Shelter Island Dr. #108, Point Loma (map), 619-758-9325
On Woofer Wednesdays, the Wine Pub offers to donate 10 percent of your bill to Loving Arms Pet Adoption, a no-kill adoption group. However, you can dine or drink any day of the week on the patio with your dog, so you and your pooch can enjoy a great meal while helping out homeless dogs at the same time. Ask for the dog-friendly menu that features two homemade dog treats and a poached chicken and rice entree. The bar has also hosted yappy hours with various dog groups; the most recent was an Italian Greyhound yappy hour where 10 percent of the proceeds were donated to charity. 3. Whistle Stop Bar – 2236 Fern St., San Diego (map), 619-284-6784
Dogs are welcome at this bar during happy hour (daily until 8 p.m.), except on weekends. Dogs do not need to be leashed in the bar unless they aren’t able to get along with other dogs, and pet parents are expected to clean up after their pooches. While you’re downing a pint, your pooch can lap up a fresh bowl of water. The bar has seen as many as 12 dogs on a single night, so what are you waiting for?
